Creating a stylish TV setup is crucial. There’s no better way to kick back, relax, and feel at home. The only problem is…all of those unsightly cords! There are so many – TV, router, cable, and whatever other cord or wire you have. With a clunky 80’s-style TV entertainment center, hiding cords is easy, but with a sleek and modern wall-mounted TV, it’s more of a challenge. Here are 5 ways we like to hide our cords.
1. Wire It Through the Wall
This method will involve you physically cutting a hole into your wall. The cords run through the hole. Obviously, this has its advantages and its drawbacks. The biggest advantage is that all of the cables can be hidden – completely out of sight. This method truly gets the job done. The disadvantage of this method is that once you’ve driven a hole into the wall, that’s it. There are no take backs. There is no undo button. You need to know exactly where the hole needs to be and you need to get it right the first time. You can’t ever change the position of the TV either, because nobody needs two holes in their wall. Also, this method needs to be done on drywall. So, the “wire through the wall” method isn’t for everyone.
2. Use a Cord Cover
Using a cord cover is less invasive than drilling a hole in the wall. It’s also chic and stylish. The cord cover will run down the length of the mounted TV or TV stand and completely hide any of the wires it’s covering. The cover can be painted to match the TV or wall in order to blend in better with the room. The downside of this method is that the wires are not on the complete other side of the wall like with the “wire it through the wall” method – however, it is much less invasive and still chic and stylish.
3. Use a Stylish Accessory
This method is simple, easy, and super creative. It’s also budget friendly because you can use existing items that you already have. You’ll simply place accessories strategically over the cords in order to cover them up. It works best with a TV stand or some other surface beneath the TV. That way you can utilize the platform to place the accessories more strategically. Use accessories that flow with your existing space. Don’t choose to work with anything that looks clunky or out of place. Here are some ideas for accessories to use:
- A clock or clocks
4. Bring the Cords Together
This method isn’t about hiding the cords – it’s about organizing them. The worst part of TV and cable cords is that there are so MANY! By bringing the cords together you are organizing the space and making it more manageable to the eye. You can wrap the cords using a bread bag tie or wire. Or, you could purchase a specialty tie. With this method, your cords won’t disappear, but it will make your setup look much cleaner and tidier.
5. Use Wire Art to Jazz Up Your Cables
That’s right! Make your TV cable cords snazzy and jazzy with some custom art. This solution is much more out-of-the-box than the others, but heed our advice and you’ll find that you’ve transformed your eye sore into something pleasant. This method is based on the idea that most TV cords are flexible and long – in other words, they’re easy to work with. By the time you’re done you won’t feel like you’re looking at exposed cables, you’ll feel like you’re looking at art. Maybe you’ll turn your cables into an elephant family or a city skyline or a group of spooky trees. Whatever you go with, the end result is going to amaze you – or maybe it won’t look good at all. Truth be told, you need to be artistic to do this. Or, at least you need to know what looks good and what doesn’t. Because this method accentuates the wires instead of hides them, you really need to know what looks good.
6. Hide Your Wires with the Sleek Socket
Here’s one more method to add to your list – the sleek socket. If you want to hide those wall-mounted TV wires and cables in a chic way, there’s no better way than with the sleek socket. So…
